Capital One Travel: 5 ways we use our portal credits

When I think about the travel benefits from my rewards cards, one favorite stands out: the Capital One Travel credit.

If you aren’t familiar, it’s a $300 travel credit included on the premium Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card and the Capital One Venture X Business card each cardholder year. Both of these cards charge a $395 annual fee, and this credit offsets most of it.

A similar benefit is also currently available through the limited-time welcome offer on the mid-tier Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. With the Venture Rewards, you can earn 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first three months from account opening. Plus, upon approval, you’ll receive a $250 Capital One Travel credit to use during your first year.

However, this bonus on the Venture Rewards is ending April 13, so if you want to enjoy a $250 travel portal credit for a $95 annual fee, you’ll want to submit your application soon.

I am a big fan of the Capital One Travel credit. For a travel credit, I find it quite useful and easy to redeem, and I’m not the only TPG staffer who enjoys it. Here’s a collection of how TPG staffers use their Capital One Travel credits.

Stretch your credit across multiple car rentals

Director of travel content Eric Rosen said that he once split his Capital One Travel credit across two car rentals, one for $120 and another for $180. He likes using his credit for car rentals because his Venture X offers primary rental car insurance.

It’s worth noting that Capital One Travel credits can be split across multiple bookings, so Eric could have also used some of the credit for a flight or hotel booked through the portal (if he hadn’t used it all on these car rentals).

Contributing editor Matt Moffitt often uses his credit to reduce the cost of weeklong car rentals when he visits friends in Austin.

He said that when he searches the Capital One Travel portal, he almost always books with Hertz because of the Venture X’s President’s Circle status benefit. Because of his status, he can go straight to the President’s Circle aisle and pick any car upon landing.

Upon enrollment, accessible through the Capital One website or mobile app, eligible cardholders will remain at that status level through the duration of the offer. Please note, enrolling through the normal Hertz Gold Plus Rewards enrollment process (e.g. at Hertz.com) will not automatically detect a cardholder as being eligible for the program and cardholders will not be automatically upgraded to the applicable status tier. Book flights with built-in price drop protection

Lead points and miles writer Katie Genter always uses Capital One Travel credits for flights — ideally, flights where she would want to use Capital One’s built-in price drop protection.

With price drop protection, when you book a flight recommended by Capital One Travel’s price prediction tool, Capital One then monitors the price for 10 days. If the price drops during that period, you’ll receive the difference as a travel credit, worth up to $50.

Most recently, Katie booked two one-way flights on Azerbaijan Airlines from Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) in Baku, Azerbaijan, to Istanbul Airport (IST) for $279 total. She earned almost 1,400 Capital One miles for this booking since the Venture X earns 5 miles per dollar spent on flights booked through Capital One Travel.

I have also used a Capital One Travel credit this way. I booked a one-way flight in Virgin Atlantic’s Economy Delight class from London to New York for $611, which was reduced to $311 thanks to my $300 credit. I earned more than 1,500 Capital One miles on this flight.

Cover an overnight airport hotel with ease

Travel writer Rachel Craft used some of her Capital One Travel credit for one night at the Hilton Chicago O’Hare Airport during an overnight layover.

While the Hilton inside Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) can be more expensive than other options farther away, it’s obviously the most convenient.

The hotel cost $258 for one night, but Rachel said she didn’t mind the cost because it was essentially free — thanks to the Capital One Travel credit.

Offset pricey hotel stays (like Las Vegas getaways)

I also redeemed a Capital One Travel credit to save on a hotel stay.

I booked a three-night stay at the Conrad Las Vegas at Resorts World in January 2025. I was traveling to Las Vegas for an expensive concert, so finding any way to save on the rest of the trip was ideal.

Thankfully, my $300 Capital One Travel credit reduced the cost of a three-night hotel stay to $314. I earned 3,140 Capital One miles for this booking since I made it through the portal.

Save on big-ticket stays (like wedding weekends)

Eric said he has also used a Capital One Travel credit for a stay over the weekend of his wedding at the Del Mar Beach Hotel in San Diego.

If Eric had paid for the stay in full with cash, it would have cost $1,200, but his credit brought the total down to $900. As an added bonus, since he earned 10 miles per dollar spent on the booking with his Venture X, he earned 9,000 Capital One miles. (Note: You do not earn miles on the portion of your expense covered by the travel credit.)

Bottom line

The Capital One Travel credit is one of the best travel credits out there, especially since you don’t have to spend a minimum amount to earn the credit and don’t have to spend it all at once.

If you’re into simplicity and (relative) flexibility, there are plenty of ways to maximize this credit.

A $300 Capital One Travel credit is an ongoing benefit of the premium Venture X and Venture X Business cards. The mid-tier Venture Rewards is also currently offering a $250 credit through its limited-time offer, but that bonus ends April 13. So, keep this date in mind if you’re interested.

What is big data visualization?

Big Data Visualisation is one of the most essential aspects of communicating with a range of Big Data Analytics solutions. Once the stream of raw data is portrayed with pictures, the decision-making process becomes so much simpler.

Big Data Visualization includes the presence of about any sort of data in a graph form that refers to a process and evaluate. Scaling is the key characteristic of Big Data visualization. Today’s businesses are collecting and storing huge amounts of data which would take many years for a living thing to read, nor even realize. However, studies have found that the human retina can send signals to the nervous system at a rate of about 10 megabits per second. Big Data Visualization focuses on potent computer systems to consume raw corporate data and analyze it to create graphical representations that allow individuals to capture and recognize vast amounts of data in seconds.
