The Devil Wears Prada 2 is doing big numbers at the box office already.

The highly anticipated sequel to the 2006 hit film, starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, brought in over $77 million at the domestic box office in its opening weekend.

The movie opened globally at $233 million.

How the sequel’s box office compares to the original film

It will need to surpass $535 million to beat out the run of the first movie, which brought in $326.5 million (before inflation adjustment) in 2006, per The Wrap.

The movie had its biggest success internationally in Italy, taking in $16.6 million in the country, followed by Brazil, the United Kingdom and Mexico.

Critics and audiences are responding positively

The reviews are in for the movie, and critics are largely positive. It’s going over even better with audiences, and the film currently has an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
