Tom Hiddleston is stepping away from the Marvel universe and into ancient history for an ambitious new National Geographic project.

The actor reunites with Loki executive producer Kevin R. Wright for Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston, a three-part docudrama that premieres July 23 on Disney+ and Hulu. National Geographic has released the first trailer for the upcoming series!

The project blends documentary storytelling with scripted dramatic sequences as Tom explores the final hours before Mount Vesuvius devastated Pompeii in A.D. 79. Guided by archaeologists, historians, geologists, and disaster experts, the series examines new evidence that challenges long-standing assumptions about the catastrophe, including findings suggesting that many people may have had an opportunity to escape.

Throughout the series, The Night Manager star follows the stories of several real Romans whose lives were forever changed as the disaster unfolded.

“The ancient world has compelled my imagination and curiosity for as long as I can remember: I’ve been fascinated by it all my life,” Tom said in a statement.

“Classical Antiquity is the foundation and cornerstone of Western and European culture. To visit Pompeii is to feel the distance of the 2,000 years between now and then compress. The past becomes the present; the past feels so close. Tangible, honest and real. Our relationship with the past is alive — studying who we were in order to understand who we are. Pompeii is a gateway for that conversation. It’s a privilege to host this visually immersive and dynamic series.”

Reflecting on the experience, he added, “Pompeii is often remembered for how its story ended. But by looking closer, we can uncover the details of people’s lives, the choices they made, and the moments that came before the city was buried. To revisit the final hours of those ordinary people, caught in an extraordinary moment, and to help bring these remarkable human stories back into the light, is a genuine honor.”

Pompeii: Out of Time With Tom Hiddleston premieres July 23 on Disney+ and Hulu.

In case you didn’t know, Tom‘s Thor co-star Chris Hemsworth had to compete against these 10 actors for the title role!

Barbra Streisand is set to be honored at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, but she will no longer be attending the ceremony.

The 84-year-old icon will sadly not be there to accept her honorary Palme d’Or at the closing ceremony of the film festival due to a knee injury.

“On the advice of my doctors, as I continue recovering from a knee injury, I am sadly unable to attend the Festival de Cannes this year,” she shared in a statement, via Variety.

“But I am deeply honored to receive the honorary Palme d’Or and had so been looking forward to celebrating the remarkable films of the 79th edition.”

“I was also very much looking forward to spending time with colleagues whom I so admire — and, of course, returning to France, a place I have always loved. While I regret that I can’t be there in person, I want to extend my warmest congratulations to all of the filmmakers from around the world whose extraordinary talent and creative vision are being celebrated this year,” the statement continues.

“My heartfelt thanks to the Festival, and to everyone who continues to support and champion the art of cinema.”

The tribute will still happen on May 23.

Iris Knobloch, Thierry Frémaux and the entire festival team send Barbra Streisand their warmest wishes for a prompt recovery,” the festival said in a press release.

Barbra will be the third person to get an honorary Palme d’Or in 2026, including Peter Jackson and John Travolta.

If you missed it, Jane Fonda recently questioned why Barbra got to do Robert Redford‘s In Memoriam tribute at the 2026 Oscars, when she worked with him more often.
