Todd & Julie Chrisley Say Prison Pardons Changed Their Marriage HOW?!

This is certainly one way to describe a fresh start!

Todd and Julie Chrisley are opening up about what life has been like since reuniting after their prison releases, and according to the couple, their marriage isn’t just surviving — it’s actually entering a brand-new chapter!

Following their presidential pardons in 2025, the Chrisley Knows Best stars are looking at each other through a completely different lens, and they’re insisting the experience has reshaped what their relationship means.

Speaking on daughter Savannah Chrisley‘s Unlocked podcast in a brand-new episode released on Tuesday, Todd got surprisingly reflective about how years of legal battles, prison time, and finally coming back together have shifted his priorities.

About how that has impacted — and grown — his relationship with his spouse, Todd explained:

“I think [our relationship] is funnier. I think there’s more humor involved in it. … I always viewed my marriage as not just me and [Julie], but all of our kids, and I think for the first time in my life, I view our marriage as singular, just me and her.”

That’s definitely a different perspective for a couple that has spent decades raising a family while living so much of their lives in the public eye.

Todd and Julie have been married since 1996 and built a large family together, as Perezcious readers will no doubt recall after watching them on TV for so many years. The fam welcomed now-grown kids Chase, Savannah, and Grayson, while also raising Chloe, Todd’s granddaughter whom the couple adopted.

But over the past several years, their marriage was also tested by an extremely public legal battle. The pair were convicted in 2022 on multiple counts involving tax evasion, bank fraud, and wire fraud. Although they continued to maintain their innocence, they served time in prison before receiving pardons from none other than Donald Trump in 2025 that cut their sentences short.

Now, according to Julie, simply leaving that long legal nightmare behind has changed everything emotionally. She admitted:

“It was so heavy for literally, like, 10 years or more leading up to us going away because we dealt with it every day [that there] was something new. I think there’s just a lightness [now].”

Honestly, you can understand why they’d describe it that way after spending years under the pressure of investigations, court appearances, convictions, and incarceration. Whether people agree with their version of events or not, the couple says they’re finally able to focus on one another instead of constantly putting out fires.

Julie also reflected on how years of parenting and family responsibilities sometimes blurred the boundaries of their marriage itself. Now that they’re in a different stage of life, they’re intentionally putting their relationship first.

Todd sounded especially certain about where his priorities are today, saying:

“At this point in my life, I’m probably more clear on what our marriage is and what it looks like and what it needs to be from my perspective. This is the person that I’m going to die with, this is the person that I’m going to be with for the rest of my life.”

Pretty powerful words after everything they’ve endured together.

As for Julie, well, she’s not pretending they’ve reached some magical finish line. Instead, she says she’s focused on continuing to grow in every part of her life. She shared:

“I want my marriage to be better. I don’t want to ever stop working toward that. I think we have a great marriage, but I think there’s always room for improvement. I want to be a better mother [because] there’s always room for improvement [and] I want to be a better grandmother. There’s always room for improvement.”

And she wasn’t done there. Julie added:

“[I want] to know that there’s always room for improvement and I don’t ever want to just stop. I don’t ever want to be like, ‘OK, this is as good as it gets.’”

Well then!

It certainly sounds like the Chrisleys are trying to turn the page after one of the most turbulent stretches of their lives. Whether fans embrace this new outlook or remain skeptical after everything that’s happened is another question entirely.
