March was an interesting month for hotels, especially those with loyalty programs. Now, as spring weather starts to set in (praise!) let’s look back at some of the major hotel news that happened last month — and the smaller stories that I still think you, our incredible TPG readers, need to know about.
Last month, an interesting trend started to emerge: Las Vegas hotels are going all-inclusive … well, kind of. The Conrad Las Vegas announced a luxury all-inclusive-like package at the beginning of the month. By the end of the month, two MGM properties rolled out similar packages that include a two-night stay, meals, some alcohol and entertainment starting at just $330 for two people. Now it begs the question: Will this trend stick?
Another story that really had me excited was that Marriott Bonvoy loyalists with free night award certificates can now top them up with 25,000 points, up from the previous limit of 15,000. Hopefully, that helps stretch your points further for more exciting stays with the certificates. Also on the Marriott front, The Resort at Kapalua Bay — a popular hotel on the island of Maui — announced it would rebrand under the St. Regis flag.
But Marriott isn’t the only brand making waves in Hawaii: Hilton announced a new Curio Collection property on the island of Kauai.
The first days of spring here in New York must have me dreaming about Hawaii. While I plan that trip, here’s some more hotel news to scan.
Virgin Limited Edition will open a hotel near Marrakech
I started this year visiting Marrakech, Morocco, and the surrounding area for the first time, and I absolutely fell in love with the destination. So when I heard that Virgin Limited Edition, the top-tier brand within the Virgin Hotels Collection, would open a new outpost near the cultural city next year, my ears perked up.
Set on nearly 25 acres of land roughly 25 minutes from the heart of Marrakech, the 37-suite property, inspired by Moroccan craftsmanship and Berber traditions, is sure to be fantastic. It’ll have three restaurants, a Chef’s table experience, a speakeasy and a Moroccan hammam, not to mention a swimming pool, horseback riding experiences and tennis courts. Considering the brand already has one incredible hotel in Morocco — Kasbah Tamadot near the Atlas Mountains — I can’t wait for a trip to visit both in one go to experience the full range of Moroccan culture.
Lisa Vanderpump’s Las Vegas hotel is taking reservations
When I go see Dolly Parton in Las Vegas in September, I hope to stay at Lisa Vanderpump’s The Vanderpump Hotel, because both of those things really speak to me as a human being. The hotel, which is part of Caesars Entertainment and is Vanderpump’s first property, is a transformed version of the property formerly known as The Cromwell. With just 188 rooms, its boutique-like vibes are a counter to the towering properties on The Strip, but you’ll still find the classics, like gaming spaces — just with a Vanderpump Twist.
The Vanderpump Hotel opens in May with rates starting at $139 per night.

Data shows that wellness resorts really do help
When it comes to traveling, I typically relax best with not-so-mindful activities like drinking margaritas by the beach and parking in the sun until I’m a tomato. But lately, after an unexpected and tragic loss last year, I’ve been wondering if a tried-and-true wellness resort full of intention (and fewer margaritas) might be a good escape for me. Turns out, the data backs it up.
Miraval Resorts and Spas (a World of Hyatt-affiliated brand) and Humin, a global nonprofit leader in wellness science, teamed up to survey guests before and after their stays. Their findings were interesting to me: “Guests self-reported feeling less stressed, with 62% of those who participated in the observational, longitudinal study perceiving a reduction in stress even at 60 days post-stay.” While there are other interesting aspects to the study, feeling less stressed nearly two months after a wellness stay really has me thinking about finally taking the (cold?) plunge into a proper wellness-focused getaway. (I think I smell a TPG story.)
Speaking of wellness brands, last month Marriott announced it’s finally bringing a luxury wellness brand into the Bonvoy fold.

A rooftop bar opened at the W New York Union Square
After a long closure and a $100 million remodel, the W New York – Union Square reopened last year with a bang. Now, the final addition to the property, a rooftop bar with views of NYC’s legendary skyline, is finally open. Dubbed Guardian at the W and perched on the 22nd floor, the AvroKO-designed bar is the only rooftop bar in bustling Union Square, and sure to be a buzzy spot for sunset cocktails and city views. Luckily for TPG, it’s also right by the office. Happy hour, anyone?
A famed Rome hotel will be reimagined
Rome Cavalieri, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel, is one of our favorite Hilton properties in the world. Now, the property has announced it’s embarking on a two-year renovation project to transform all its guest rooms and suites. The redesign will be led by Tihany Design and “draws inspiration from the Eternal City’s rich palette of patterns, textures, and colors, incorporating a sophisticated combination of soft pale greens, warm terracotta accents, and fresh travertine tones that echo the Roman landscape,” according to an emailed statement from Hilton.
The hotel will remain open during renovations, with the first batch of rooms ready for guests next spring.
