The Maple Grove fire chief is on administrative leave amid Anoka County prosecutors charging him Friday with criminal sexual conduct with a minor in 2017.
Chief Maddison Zikmund could face 15 years imprisonment if found guilty. He was working for the Spring Lake-Blaine-Mounds View fire department at the time.

“The allegations are serious and deeply concerning,” Maple Grove officials said in a statement posted on the city’s website. “When the city became aware of the criminal investigation on July 1, the Fire Chief was immediately placed on administrative leave. This action is an administrative measure and is not a determination of wrongdoing.”
According to the Anoka County charging documents, Zikmund supervised the girl in the Fire Explorer program in 2016 when she was 16. They started exchanging texts, which eventually moved to more explicit conversations via Instagram and Snapchat, including Zikmund requesting nude photographs of the teen.
According to the charging documents, Zikmund invited the girl to his home in Blaine in 2017, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
The now-adult woman reported the incident to Blaine police on June 26, who referred the case to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Department.
Zikmund met with investigators on July 1. Prosecutors said in court documents Zikmund admitted to contact with the girl, although he denied having sex with her.
“Again, I know this was wrong,” Zikmund told investigators, according to the charging documents.
Maple Grove officials said in their statement the city is limited in what it can share since it is an ongoing legal matter involving personnel.
Zikmund started his career with the Spring Lake-Blaine-Mounds View Fire Department, eventually becoming chief of the Fridley Fire Department in January 2021. Maple Grove hired Zikmund to run its department in March 2025.
