Chelsea Handler Reveals Bad Date With ‘Cheap’ A-List Chef – And Name-Drops The Dude!


Chelsea Handler is out here naming names and spilling celebrity dating tea like it’s happy hour — and this latest confession is already making the internet clutch its pearls!

The comedian stopped by Kristin Cavallari’s Let’s Be Honest podcast this week and did not hesitate when asked to reveal a terrible celebrity date story she’s never shared publicly before.

Instead of dancing around the topic or dropping vague hints, Chelsea went straight for the jugular and revealed she had a terrible date with a VERY high-profile A-list star… who was none other than celebrity chef Bobby Flay. Oof!!

According to Handler on Tuesday’s new podcast episode, the whole thing actually started out pretty promising. After being set up by a mutual connection, the pair reportedly spent time chatting on the phone and flirting before Bobby decided to impress Chelsea and her girlfriends with a fancy hotel food order. Sounds smooth enough, right? Well… not exactly.

The former late-night host explained:

“I was at a hotel with some girlfriends. He knew the hotel well. He wanted to order … food for us. He was like, ‘Let me order your food for you. I love that hotel.’”

Cute gesture! Until the bill arrived at Chelsea’s door instead of Bobby’s! Yes, really — the hotel sent her the bill.

That’s when the vibe completely crashed and burned for the former Chelsea Lately host. And apparently somebody nearby was quick to explain that this wasn’t exactly shocking behavior from the Food Network star, as Chelsea recalled:

“And I’m like, ‘What?’ And then somebody was like, ‘Oh yeah. He’s really cheap.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, I hate cheap.’”

Yikes!! You can practically hear the record scratch.

Chelsea went on to make it crystal clear that frugality is not exactly a turn-on in her dating world, especially when someone is trying to woo her:

“If you’re penurious, I’m not interested in you. I’m generous and I like people to be generous with their money.”

Even after the awkward hotel-room-service disaster, Chelsea still gave Bobby another shot and agreed to go on an actual date with him. But according to her, the chemistry simply wasn’t there. And whatever did happen clearly left an impression because she summed the entire experience up with one brutally simple description:

“It was just, like, messy.”

Messy?! Now THAT is the kind of vague-yet-devastating celebrity review that keeps gossip lovers fed for days.

What makes this even funnier is the fact that Bobby was on Kristin’s podcast in late 2024 talking about his own dating history! During that conversation, he recalled sliding into Kristin’s DMs and trying to take her out while visiting Nashville. Kristin insisted she turned him down because she was exhausted from dating, while Bobby jokingly claimed she told him she was already seeing someone. Either way, the chef clearly has no fear when it comes to shooting his shot.

These days Bobby is reportedly happily coupled up with fellow chef Brooke Williamson, so it doesn’t seem like Chelsea’s brutally honest recollection is going to shake up his love life too much. Still, the internet is absolutely going to have opinions about the idea of a millionaire celebrity chef allegedly sticking someone else with the room service tab.

And TBH, the image of Chelsea staring at that bill in disbelief may be the funniest visual we’ve gotten all week. Ha!!
