Carson Rowland, who plays Tyler “Ty” Townsend on the Netflix series Sweet Magnolias, is not returning for the show’s upcoming 5th season.

Sweet Magnolias season five premieres on June 11, but Ty will be missing. The exit comes after Ty and his best friend Annie finally told each other that they have feelings for one another.

While Carson‘s absence from the show will be a disappointment for fans, the show’s boss says that the storyline will address him being gone.

Why is Carson Rowland leaving Sweet Magnolias?

Showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson told Us Weekly that it was Carson‘s decision to leave the show.

“He had some other opportunities that I’m really excited for him about,” she said. “He’s a really, really good friend of mine, and so that’s something that’s really exciting for him and for all of us. We’re all still so supportive of him.”

Anderson said it’s possible that he could return in season 6.

“I’m a big believer in open doors,” she said. “And I hope we’ll have the opportunity to see who walks through that open door.”

Anderson addressed how they’ll handle the exit.

“In his leaving, we wanted to make the best of the situation, and look at what happens when people leave the people they love to chase a dream,” she said.

Anderson added, “I know Ty and Annie’s relationship has been such an important piece of Annie’s journey. That’s something that’s really meaningful and something that was really special to bring to life together. And he’s such a generous scene partner. He’s so kind and just the coolest person ever. I love hanging out with him on set, off set. He’s so great, and so of course it’s sad, but it’s also really exciting.”

Barbra Streisand is set to be honored at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, but she will no longer be attending the ceremony.

The 84-year-old icon will sadly not be there to accept her honorary Palme d’Or at the closing ceremony of the film festival due to a knee injury.

“On the advice of my doctors, as I continue recovering from a knee injury, I am sadly unable to attend the Festival de Cannes this year,” she shared in a statement, via Variety.

“But I am deeply honored to receive the honorary Palme d’Or and had so been looking forward to celebrating the remarkable films of the 79th edition.”

“I was also very much looking forward to spending time with colleagues whom I so admire — and, of course, returning to France, a place I have always loved. While I regret that I can’t be there in person, I want to extend my warmest congratulations to all of the filmmakers from around the world whose extraordinary talent and creative vision are being celebrated this year,” the statement continues.

“My heartfelt thanks to the Festival, and to everyone who continues to support and champion the art of cinema.”

The tribute will still happen on May 23.

Iris Knobloch, Thierry Frémaux and the entire festival team send Barbra Streisand their warmest wishes for a prompt recovery,” the festival said in a press release.

Barbra will be the third person to get an honorary Palme d’Or in 2026, including Peter Jackson and John Travolta.

If you missed it, Jane Fonda recently questioned why Barbra got to do Robert Redford‘s In Memoriam tribute at the 2026 Oscars, when she worked with him more often.
