President Trump is looking to reschedule the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The 79-year-old US President was taken off stage at the annual event on Saturday night (April 25) following shots fired outside the ballroom, and he was later relocated from a secure location in the hotel back to the White House down the street.
In a follow up post on his Truth Social account, the President said the event was officially canceled after he wanted it to resume, but is looking to reschedule in the next few weeks.

“Law Enforcement has requested that we leave the premises, consistent with protocol, which we will do, immediately. I will be giving a press conference in 30 minutes from the White House Press Briefing Room,” Trump posted on his account. “The First Lady, plus the Vice President, and all Cabinet members, are in perfect condition. We will be speaking to you in a half an hour. I have spoken with all the representatives in charge of the event, and we will be rescheduling within 30 days.”
This was the first time Trump has attended the annual dinner as President.
According to CNN, who has been sharing updates about the situation, says the gunman has been identified as a 30-year-old male from California.
They also reported that a secret service agent was shot, hitting their protective gear and the agent was taken to the local hospital.
Earlier in the night, it was reported that four shots were fired in the lobby area of the Washington Hilton, where the event was taking place. Others are reporting there were more shots heard.
