A former longtime ally of Donald Trump is accepting responsibility for helping to get him elected to the presidency.
In the weeks since the 79-year-old Republican has launched a war in Iran, multiple conservative voices have broken with him after years of support.
As a result, Trump has turned on them in a brutal fashion, labeling them everything from “low IQ” to “losers, just trying to latch on to MAGA” in furious statements on social media.
Amid the fallout, one former ally addressed their support of the president, saying that they’ll be “tormented” for a long time for their role in getting him back into the White House.

That ally was former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who attracted Trump‘s rage after referring to his profanity laced Easter day statement threatening to send Iran to hell as “vile.”

During the April 20 episode of The Tucker Carlson Show, the conversative pundit hosted his brother, Buckley Carlson, a former Trump speech writer, as a guest.
The pair addressed their support of the president, with Tucker admitting that they were “implicated” in all that he has done since taking the White House.
“You and I and everyone else who supported him — you wrote speeches for him, I campaigned for him. I mean, we’re implicated in this for sure. It’s not enough to say, ‘Well, I changed my mind.’ Or like, ‘Oh, this is bad. I’m out.’ It’s like in very small ways, but in real ways, you and me and millions of people like us are the reason this is happening right now,” he reflected.
Tucker continued, adding, “So I do think it’s like a moment to wrestle with our own consciences. You know, we’ll be tormented by by it for a long time. I will be, and I want to say I’m sorry for misleading people. It was not intentional. That’s all I’ll say.”
Moments later, he wondered if the president’s behavior was “always the plan.”
“You don’t want to be a conspiracy nut, but clearly there were signs of low character, we knew that. But there are tons of people of low character who outperform their character,” he said.
Buckley agreed, adding, “I don’t know a single person who doesn’t feel betrayed, left behind, upset, hostile, freaked out about the consequences of this. I mean, it’s not a small thing that we’ve done.”
Another close relation to Tucker just exited a key role closely related to the White House.
If you missed it, Trump recently implied that he gave a “sleazebag” ally a White House job because he felt bad for them.
