- Ghirardelli is recalling certain powdered beverage mixtures, like hot cocoa and mocha frappe mixes.
- The products may contain Salmonella, a pathogen that can cause serious foodborne illness.
- Toss any recalled products, call Ghirardelli for a refund, and monitor for Salmonella symptoms.
Ghirardelli Chocolate Company is recalling a number of powdered beverage mixtures, such as hot cocoa mix, the Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday. The products may contain Salmonella, bacteria that can cause severe or potentially life-threatening foodborne illness. So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection to the recall.
Which Drink Mixes Were Recalled?
The following products were affected by the recall:

The items were packaged in bulk and intended for food service providers, but some mixes may also have been available for purchase directly to consumers online, according to the FDA.
The situation follows a recall of California Dairies, Inc. milk powder, also due to potential Salmonella contamination, which was supplied to a third-party manufacturer and used as an ingredient in the Ghirardelli powdered beverage mixes.
A full list of lot numbers and best-by dates for the recalled products is available in the FDA's report.
What You Should Do
If you have any of the recalled beverage mixes, do not use them. Instead, throw them away and call Ghirardelli at 1-844-776-0419 to request a refund.
If you think you've already consumed a recalled drink mix, monitor for symptoms of Salmonella, including fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Seek medical attention if you experience Salmonella symptoms after consuming a recalled product.
