Jeff Bezos is speaking out about the Amazon MGM Studios film Melania.
Here’s a full synopsis: “Step inside Melania Trump‘s world as she orchestrates inauguration plans, navigates the complexities of the White House transition, and moves her family back to the Nation’s Capital. With exclusive footage capturing critical meetings, private conversations, and never-before-seen environments, Melania showcases Mrs. Trump’s return to one of the world’s most powerful roles.”
Bezos, the billionaire founder of Amazon, shared in a new interview with CNBC, “The ‘Melania’ thing is a falsehood that will not die. I see it reported all the time that somehow I was involved in this.” He continued, “I had nothing to do with that.”
“By the way, it appears it was a good business decision. It did very well in theaters. It’s done very well on streaming. People are very curious about Melania. So even though I had nothing to do with it, it appears that the Amazon team made a very wise business decision,” he added. Critics did not have the most favorable reviews.
He shared that his company did not sign on to the documentary as “a way of buying influence,” noting, “I can see why people say this….We have denied it. Melania’s office has denied it. It’s not true.”
In another moment from the interview, Bezos talked about how he views his impact on the world.
“If I do my job right, the value to society and civilization from my for-profit companies will be much, much larger than the good that I do with my charitable giving,” he shared.
