Donald Trump seemingly alluded to a major presidential scandal instead of directly answering a question about his plans for future military activity outside of the United States.

The 79-year-old president spoke with members of the press aboard Air Force One on Friday (April 17). During the conversation, he was asked about possible plans to send the U.S. military into another foreign country, something that he’d alluded to earlier in the week.

After threatening to “stop by” Cuba, Trump was asked for clarification about possible plans to strike the country. However, he replied by referencing a former president’s key blunder while in office.

The president in question was former President Bill Clinton, with Trump seemingly alluding to his sex scandal involving Monica Lewinsky.

“There have been reports that the Pentagon’s preparing for military action in Cuba. Are those reports true? Is Cuba next?” a member of the press asked the president.

He replied, “Well, it depends on what your definition of military action is,” before doubling down when asked if his plans would look more like Venezuela or Iran. “It depends on what your definition of military action is, as Bill Clinton would say.”

“You understand that? No. And a lot of people don’t understand that,” he said.

Trump appeared to be referencing a statement Clinton made in 1998 amid speculation that he’d been sexually involved with Lewinsky, a former White House intern: “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky,” he said at the time.

Clinton‘s remark hinged on they gray area in what constitutes sexual relations between a man and a woman, essentially turning accusations against him into a battle about the semantics of the phrase “sexual relations.”

Despite his argument, he was still impeached by the House of Representatives, though he was later acquitted by the Senate.

It’s unclear if Trump‘s response confirmed future military action in Cuba.

While speaking to the press on April 13, the president described Cuba as a “failing nation,” and implied that he wanted to take action against the country after wrapping his ongoing war in Iran.

Just Jared reached out to the White House for clarification about the president’s comments but did not hear back at the time of publication.

Earlier in the week, Trump answered a question about his health in a shockingly candid manner.

You already know coffee boosts your energy—but could it also help you lose weight? It turns out, when you drink your coffee may matter almost as much as what’s in your cup—and if you time your caffeine fix right, it could help support your weight loss goals.

How Coffee Affects Weight Loss

Coffee (and the compounds in coffee) may contribute to weight loss or maintenance by:

  • Reducing total body fat: Drinking a moderate amount of coffee (1–7 cups per week) may help reduce total body fat, trunk fat, and visceral adipose tissue (VAT), a particularly harmful type of deep belly fat.
  • Curbing appetite: Coffee may help some people maintain a lower body weight and less body fat, possibly due to its effect on appetite. Specifically, consuming coffee before meals may help reduce appetite.
  • Increasing calorie burn: Coffee may also help you burn more calories by slightly increasing your resting metabolic rate, which refers to the calories you burn while at rest. Caffeine can also boost fat oxidation (the breakdown of fat in the body).

However, coffee alone isn’t enough to help you reach weight loss goals. Eating a nutritious diet, high in vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber, and reducing your overall calorie intake are much more important for weight loss and maintaining a healthy body weight.

Does Timing Matter?

Not directly—but some research suggests that the timing of your caffeine may help influence other body processes or decisions that can support weight loss or management.

  • Drink coffee before a workout: Consuming caffeine—including coffee—around 60 minutes before a workout can improve performance and energy levels. This could help make your workouts more productive (and more enjoyable), supporting weight management.
  • Avoid caffeine in the evening: Drinking coffee too close to bedtime could disrupt sleep, even in the short term, which may impact metabolism and make it harder to burn calories and lose weight.

Making the Healthiest Cup

On its own, coffee is a low-calorie beverage, with no fat or carbs and a negligible amount of protein. But when you start adding sweeteners, you may lose coffee’s weight loss benefits: A 2023 study found that while coffee intake is generally associated with weight loss, regularly adding even just a teaspoon of sugar to coffee is linked to weight gain.

Instead, experts recommend adding warm, flavorful spices like cinnamon, non-dairy creamer, or even traditional milk to coffee if you don’t enjoy it black.
